Sure, they fall into the just-a-few-days love story so common to such tales, but it's such a warm and funny relationship build it's easily forgivable. I personally found the side set of characters a whole lot of fun: Louis and Ray were again nods to goody oddballs of a bygone era and Charlotte with her manic sweetness made her my favorite character in the show. And if you like your traditional animation, this is truly a treat. The colors are wonderful, and while I've never been to New Orleans I did like what Disney did with it. The swamps were a visual treat especially and the animation is a testament to what an artist can do. I don't think I can give it 5 stars as enjoyable as it is, there were a times where I just wished it could be very so slightly better. It's not my favorite Disney movie. And perhaps this is me subconsciously comparing it to Disney films with more emotional and thematic weight. This likely should be given the chance to rest on its own merits of being a fun, light-hearted tale that asks little more than to do some more with an old fairytale.

Schon das Buch von von Schirach bietet handlungsmäßig eher wenig und ist in meinen Augen psychologisch im Hinblick auf das Verhalten von Fabrizio Collini unglaubhaft (Warum schweigt er nach der Tat über sein Motiv? Warum lebte er Jahrzehnte als Gastarbeiter ausgerechnet in Deutschland, von wo die Mörder seines Vaters stammen? Warum erhängt er sich am Ende des Prozesses plötzlich, obwohl sein Verhalten für viele nun nachvollziehbarer geworden ist? ). Der Film steht diesen Unzulänglichkeiten des Buches in nichts nach, da er sich sehr eng an die Romanvorlage hält.
