Dunkerque Movie Poster

More than one DD driver has suffered from receiving my attentions. This ship has two huge things going for it. Firstly, muzzle velocity, which upon a quick scan through my harbor seems to be the highest of any Tier VI BB. Her guns approach cruiser trajectory. This means that there is much less time for a target DD or CA to conduct maneuvers to generate a miss, and it seems that range error is less of an issue due to flat trajectory. I know people complain about the dispersion, but I'm still routinely racking up hits. Even against DDs, I -expect- a hit or two per salvo and get disappointed when I miss. From my other BBs, DD hits are 'nice'. Maybe Arizona, which has pretty reasonable guns, would be an exception. The other is the fact that you will almost always be firing with eight barrels as soon as they load. The guns turn quickly, and unlike the half or third of a battery which is aft of the superstructure on other ships, you don't have to wait for the guns to go through 290 degrees to fire on a target which has just crossed your bow.

Zig-zagging in the attack is really easy in this thing, and you are putting out the damage consistently. I cannot overstate how quickly you can react to unexpected targets, or how much more flexible you become when charging down things armed with torpedoes. This ship, much like the M103, really rewards aggressive play. It doesn't play like a battleship, and if that's what you intend to use it for, then, go get Warspite, Arizona, or whatever. But if you're a risk-taker, this is definitely a ship to consider. A note on dispersion. I've not looked up the figures. It certainly seems poor when you're playing. You fire at something, and you see the eight shells start to spread out all over your screen. Yet I'm still routinely getting hits. So either the dispersion is well countered for by the muzzle velocity, or there is a little bit of perception effect going on. When you fire Dunkerque, all eight rounds leave from the middle of your screen, and the only direction they can go is outward. When you fire all eight rounds from Warspite, or all twelve from Arizona, they're likely coming from the edges of your screen to meet in the middle.

The ship won't hold up to a concentrated battering for long. Fortunately, you're fast enough that if you can anticipate well, you have a chance of withdrawing. Bottom line: Would I buy this ship over Warspite or Arizona? No. It's not in competition with those for anything except your dollars. If you want a Tier VI BB, go with one of those two. If you are an aggressive player, who is willing to risk all-or-nothing in a vessel that loves getting into the mid-ranges and has an ability to react quickly to things, while being at an unfair advantage when duelling with cruisers. I'm not saying that the other reviewers are wrong. I'm saying that my experience, how the ship has reacted to me, does not seem to match theirs, and yours may not either.

Some folks quite simply can't make that tank work. Look on the WoT forum, look on Reddit, and you'll see the majority of folks either blast M103, or claim it's sub-par, at best, with a minority of folks saying the tank is fantastic. I'm one of the latter (It's my best win-rate researchable tank, period). I have a very strong feeling that Dunkerque is going to fall under the same sort of category, and I think it's partially because it has similar characteristics. Personally, I've been doing well in the thing. It very well may be a ship which complements the playstyle or mentality of a few players, but fails miserably to 'click' with a number of others. I've been enjoying it, but I wasn't playing it particularly much until the other reviews started coming in. So I started playing the ship a lot more over the last couple of days, trying to see if I can replicate the damnation which the reviewers are giving. And I just can't. I keep doing well. I have played four games with it so far today alone.
